STATE MUSEUM
On the 3rd of February1957, the Honourable Tan Sri Tunku Ismail bin Tunku Yahya (Tunku Indera Setia),  Menteri Besar Kedah has officially opened the State Historical Museum in the Balai Besar building. In 1961, the museum was moved to the present building which is now in Bakar Bata Road. Besides exhibits on historical heritage and local culture, it is also a centre of research on Kedah civilization.

STATE ART GALERY BULIDINGS
In 1912, the building was fomerly built for the Mahkamah Besar and officially opened in 1923 by the H.R.H. Sultan Abdul Hamid Halim Shah, K.C.M.G. It used to be an Audit Office, The Treasury Department and the office of the British Advisor. It was then turned into the Public Works and Waterwork Department until December 1982. In July, the building was officially declared as Kedah Darul Aman Art Galery.

KEDAH ROYAL MUSEUM
It was originally a Sultan's palace which was known as Kota Setar. It was built by the late Sultan Muhammad Jiwa Zainal Abidin in 1736. The palace is known as the Istana Pelam after the wedding of his prince and princesses. It was officially opened on the 25th. July 1983 by the H.R.H. Sultan Abdul Halim Mu'adzam Shah ibni Almarhum Sultan Badlishah

BALAI NOBAT
The Balai Nobat was built in 1904 replacing the old Balai Nobat. It is of 40 feet in height and was built in 1960. The nobat instruments which were kept here had been used on certain ceremonial ocassion. The existing nobat is known to be the oldest and historical in Kedah.

SPACENDERA PALACE
 The palace of the first wife of Sultan Abdul Hamid Halim Shah was built in 1880 and was left after the death of Spacendra on 10th February 1907. The Government then bought the building in 1922 to be turned into the Kampong Baru Girls School. In 1981, it was turned into Pejabat Pendidikan Cawangan.

Location : Jalan Kampong Baru, Alor Setar.

BALAI BESAR
The Balai Besar was originally built of wood in 1736 but it was ruined during the war and was left uncared for. It was torned down and rebuilt in 1904 during the reign of Sultan Abdul Hamid Halim Shah. In 1958, it was reconstructed on the left and right wing of the back part of the building which was turned into Balai Penghadapan and Pusat Kegiatan Rasmi Negeri.

CLOCK TOWER
This tower was built in 1912. From its structure there are two elements in evident. The two elements are :
  The elements of Islam
The dome and the crescent are usually found in mosques and so is the carving found around the minaret
  The elements of Hindu
On the bottom part of minaret, the carving found depicts the elements of Hinduism especially on the entrance side.

ZAHIR MOSQUE
The masjid Zahir was officially opened by H.R.H. Sultan Abdul Hamid Halim Shah on the 15th October 1915. It has 4 domes and the structure of the main entrance is an arrow in shape. This indicates a harmonies situation.

Location : The junction of Jalan Kampung Perak and Jalan Pekan Melayu

   

OLD PALACE @ YELLOW PALACE
It was built in the same period as the State Art Gallery and the Royal Museum. It was then relocated to the palace in Anak Bukit. This palace is where the King and Queen resides. Now it was left as it is.

RUMAH KELAHIRAN TUN DR MAHATHIR
The wooden attap house was bought by Mohamad Iskandar when he wanted to marry off his children. It was built in 1900. When he bought the house, the house has only one room with no electricity. It has wooden flooring and the ceiling was made from white cloth. Mahathir was born here on 20th December 1925. He lives there until he was married and moved to his own house in Titi Gajah. Even then Mahathir will always commute to this house to visit his mother.

Location : Lorong Kilang Ais, Seberang Perak, Alor Setar.

   

KUALA KEDAH FORT
This fort is also known as the main gate of Kuala Kedah. It was built on 1771 by Sultan Abdullah and was completed in 1780. In 1821 it was conquered by the Siamese till 1842. Kota Kuala Bahang or Kota Kuala Kedah was no longer a battlefield after this time.
POST OFFICE
This building in Raja Road was built in 1912 replacing the former post and telegraph office which was built in 1899. It has now moved to a new building in Stadium Road. This building was turned into a branch post office.

Location : Jalan Raja, Alor Setar.
   

PEKAN RABU
Pekan Rabu is were one would be able to find anything from crafts to food items. Dr. Mahathir was once a trader in this complex.
SUNGAI PETANI CLOCK TOWER
The clock tower was built in 1936. It is of 121 in height. At the top there is a dome shaped structure resembling the dome of a mosque. The tower was said to be given by Tawkey Lim Lean Teng to the King George V and Queen Mary to commemorate the Silver Jubilee
